Unusual oropharyngeal Kaposi's sarcoma about a case not associated to the human immunodeficiency virus |
p. 1 |
Nzanzu Kikuhe Jason, Mbusa Makata Castram, Justine Namwagala DOI:10.4103/JHNP.JHNP_10_20
Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is almost always associated with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome but is rarely described in the HIV-negative and nonimmunosuppressed individual, especially in the head-and-neck region. We present a case of 32-year-old HIV-negative, immunocompetent man with an oropharyngeal KS. The complete surgical resection of the tumor alone was used as a therapeutic modality. Clinical presentation, histological features, and treatment are discussed and compared with a review of the literature.

Spindle cell tumor with thymus-like differentiation masquerading as a papillary carcinoma of thyroid gland |
p. 5 |
Jahnavi Gandhi, Shailee Mehta, Shweta Gondha, Priti Trivedi DOI:10.4103/JHNP.JHNP_7_20
Spindle epithelial tumor with thymus-like differentiation (SETTLE) is an indolent malignant thyroid tumor seen in children, adolescents, and young adults showing thymic or related branchial pouch differentiation. The tumors are composed of spindle cells along with focal epithelial component and glandular formations. We herein report a case of SETTLE with a follow-up period of 20 years.

Management of delayed chyle leak after thyroid cancer surgery |
p. 8 |
Lalit Kumar Bansal, Stuti Gupta, Poras Chaudhary, Manu Vats DOI:10.4103/JHNP.JHNP_5_20
Chyle leak from thoracic duct injury after head-and-neck surgery is a rare but serious complication that occurs in 0.5%–1.3% of thyroidectomies and 2%–8% of neck dissections. The variable anatomy and fragile composition of the thoracic duct render it prone to injury. The majority of chyle leak occurs with surgery of the left neck; however, up to 25% of chyle leak occur with right neck surgery. Early identification and appropriate management of chyle leak are imperative for optimal surgical outcome. In this case report, we explain a case of carcinoma thyroid for which total thyroidectomy with left lateral neck dissection was done. Postoperatively, there is continuous drainage of chyle from wound site which was managed by re-exploration and repair of injured thoracic duct.

p. 12 |
Dayanand Hota, Krishnendra Dhar Dwivedi, Aarti Sharma, Shailesh Patel DOI:10.4103/JHNP.JHNP_4_20
Cysticercosis is a parasitic disease caused by larval form of tapeworm. Infestation of human tissues is uncommon, and affliction of the oral cavity and tongue is rare. We are reporting a case of 4-year-old male child with painless cystic mass on the right border of tongue 1 cm × 2 cm × 2 cm in size firmly attached to tongue for 2 months. Histopathology reveals cysticercosis of tongue.
